It's too bad you were exposed to such early negative experiences. I'm a liberal, progressive Presbyterian (yes, there are such folks) and your childhood question would have been well received and responded to in the church where I worship. As a retired minister, I look back at all the many battles we Presbies have engaged in, conservative and liberal, and feel pleased at the current progress we're making. Your questions, any questions, certainly deserve an honest hearing and response.
